2 poems in Herbarium – online anthology, book and forthcoming reading

Wayward Plants, a voluntary organisation that develops imaginative gardens on derelict sites, has created an Urban Physic Garden on Union Street in Southwark, south London – a temporary installation exploring plants and herbs with medicinal properties.

To compliment the project, the poet James Wilkes has assembled 95 poems by 56 poets. Each poem takes as its subject one of the plant species in the Physic Garden. These plants are labelled with QR codes (the square barcodes that smartphones can read), each linking to a specific webpage containing the poem. I have contributed the poems a dandelion clock and hop-pole.

On Friday 22 July 2011, the Urban Physic Garden will host a marathon reading by many of the participating poets, myself included. This event will also see the launch of Herbarium, a print anthology edited by James. The reading starts 7pm at 100 Union Street, London SE1 0NL. Free entry; food and drink will be available from the on-site ambulance/bar. Seating is under tarpaulins that can withstand moderate rain.

Published by Capsule Press, the anthology compiles all the poems written for the project. It has a beautiful design by Lina Hakim, hand-printed covers created by the Henningham Family Press and a CD insert of sound pieces and songs.

To order copies of the anthology at £5 plus p&p, please email herbariumanthology[AT]gmail[DOT]com.

Complete line-up for the reading: Chris McCabe, David Caddy, Liz Adams, Marcus Slease, Philip Terry, Steve Willey, Michael Zand, Kirsten Irving, Emily Hasler, Chris Page, Luke Heeley, John Clegg, Fabian Macpherson, Amy Cutler, Jeff Hilson, James Harvey, Claire Wilcox, Peter Philpott, Luke Rosier, Simon Barraclough, Laura Forman, Tim Cresswell, Nat Raha, Keith Jebb, Antony John, Holly Hopkins, James Wilkes, Jon Stone, SJ Fowler, Tessa Whitehouse, Mendoza, yours truly, Wayne Clements, Jon Shaw, Edmund Hardy, Tamarin Norwood.
